Scottish rail strike that could have caused chaos during COP26 has been called off

Rail strikes that could have caused travel chaos during the COP26 summit have been called off.

The RMT union confirmed yesterday that scheduled strikes would be “withdrawn immediately” as their members unanimously backed a pay rise negotiated with ScotRail and the Scottish government.

The union’s achieved its call for a 2.5% pay rise backdated to April and a £300 “Cop26 payment” for all rail staff.

They also negotiated a three-hour booking on allowance applied to each rest day worked during the busy summit period, applicable for 12 months from the agreement date.

Speaking with BBC Radio’s Good Morning Scotland programme earlier this week, Scotland’s Transport Minister Graeme Dey had said “the signs are not optimistic” regarding a potential deal with the union.
