Imran Ahmad Khan jailed for sexually assaulting 15 year-old boy

Former Conservative MP Imran Ahmad Khan has been jailed.

Last month Southwark Crown Court found the then MP guilty of sexually assaulting a 15 year-old boy.

The judge specified that he ought to serve 18 months, “half on custody, released on license for remainder of the term, subject to recall should you commit a further offence”.

The conviction relates to an attack at a Staffordshire house in 2008, where he was accused of forcing the victim to drink alcohol and view pornography before assaulting him.

He has since stepped down as an MP, with a by-election due to take place in his former Wakefield seat on 23 June.

He was elected as the Conservative MP for the constituency in 2019.

Current Conservative MP Crispin Blunt has sparked controversy after he told BBC1’s Politics South East programme that he believes an appeal will clear Khan’s “good name”.

Blunt, who only attended parts of the trial and did not observe witness testimony, also appeared to claim he knew more about the case than the jury.

Following Khan’s conviction in April, Blunt was criticised for claiming his ex colleague’s innocence and subsequently apologised for the remarks.
