Former minister says Boris Johnson should resign

A former Conservative minister and sitting MP has urged Boris Johnson to step down following his fine for breaching Covid regulations.

An official No 10 spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that the chancellor and prime minister were fined over the latter’s 2020 birthday gathering, stating: “on 19th June 2020 at the Cabinet Room 10 Downing Street between 1400 and 1500 you participated in a gathering of two or more people indoors in the Cabinet Room at 10 Downing Street”.

Staffordshire Moorlands MP Karen Bradley said in a statement released by StokeonTrentLive that she will “spend the next few days consulting my constituents and will decide on what action to take after listening to them”.

However she did not shy away from stressing that Johnson ought to step down of his own accord, saying: “But I do wish to make it clear that if I had been a minister found to have broken the laws that I passed, I would be tendering my resignation now.”
