Ex Treasury minister issues warning over inflation hike

Former Treasury minister Jesse Norman, has said the economy is “dramatically better” than had previously been thought but that inflation was a pressing concern.

Mr Norman, who was sacked in September’s reshuffle, told Sky News earlier today that he was responsible for drafting many of the government’s tax proposals and that he was thus unable to comment on them. He said their overarching purpose was prompting growth while simultaneously “flagging a degree of fiscal responsibility”.

“It will be very interesting to see what the balance will be.. the really interesting question will be what this does to support that growth story,” he went on, noting that however, inflation is “a serious matter”, and that there is a “beginning of a recognition” that it could be a longer-term issue than initially predicted.
