Douglas Ross defends decision to retract call for PM to resign

Douglas Ross, the leader of the Scottish Conservatives, has explained why he retracted his call forĀ  Boris Johnson to resign over allegations he held lockdown-defying gatherings.

The Moray MP argued that “anything else just seems trivial” following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, urging support for the UK government’s efforts to aid Ukraine’s defence.

In February Ross publicly called for Johnson to resign after the prime minister admitting that he attending a gathering at Downing Street in May 2020. Ross said this admission meant Johnson’s position was ā€œno longer tenableā€ and confirmed that he had forwarded a letter of no confidence to the 1992 committee.
