Conservative MP confirms he has stood down as party’s vice chair

Conservative vice chairman Andrew Bowie has confirmed that he has stood down from his position.

Yesterday evening Reaction reported that colleagues of the MP for West Aberdeenshire claimed he wished to step down from the post, feeling that he could no longer support the government.

Bowie told the BBC yesterday night that he wishes to step down from the party post to focus on his constituency and to campaign for the Union.

He claimed the decision was “in no way connected” to recent events.

Last week he voted to quash the recommended 30-day suspension of Owen Paterson from the Commons.

Bowie was first elected to Parliament in the 2017 general election.

He was re-elected with a reduced majority of 843 over the Scottish National Party in 2019.
