Western leaders including prime minister Boris Johnson, US president Joe Biden and European commission president Ursula von der Leyen  Build Back Better World initiative at a COP26 on the final day of the leader’s summit at COP26.

The initiative, which emerged during the G7 summit in Cornwall earlier this year, is a green international infrastructure initiative, an alternative to China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Prime minister Johnson remarked that there is “a huge opportunity to turn our struggle against climate change into a global mission for jobs and growth”.

The PM added “this is like one of those moments in the story of humanity when everybody is making the same intellectual breakthrough at the same time in seeing the way forward.”

President Biden said that “by coming together to make a difference in the lives of people all around the world, we have to show — and I think we will show — that democracy is still the best way for delivering results.”
