Borders bill passes third reading

The government’s controversial ‘borders bill’ has passed it’s third reading in the House of Commons.

Labour opposed the bill, but it passed by 298 to 231.

Home secretary Priti Patel had previously commended the bill to the House, saying: “We want to take back control of our borders.”

But Labour’s new shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper accused Patel of “letting vile people traffickers and criminal gangs off the hook”.
