80 plus countries pledge to slash methane emissions by 2030

Over 80 countries have today agreed to a joint US -EU pledge to reduce methane emissions by 30 per cent by 2030.

Slashing emissions of the greenhouse gas by a third will “immediately slow down climate change”, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen told delegates this afternoon.

However, China, Russia and India, states who fall within the top five methane emitters, did not sign the agreement.

The UK has a strong record on reducing emissions from methane, one of the main greenhouses gases warming our planet, with around 60% of methane emissions cut over the last three decades across the waste, energy and agriculture industries.
