Deidre Brock was elected as SNP MP for Edinburgh North and Leith in 2015, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 12,808.
Containing the Port of Leith, the book and subsequent film, Trainspotting, was based around this area.
Stretching out from the centre of Edinburgh, this seat also contains Bute House, the First Minister’s official residence, Edinburgh’s St Mary’s Cathedral, and the Edinburgh waterfront. One of the most deprived of the Edinburgh seats, this is a compact constituency which is regularly said to include the UK’s highest proportion of residents living in tenements and flats.
At Westminster, Deidre Brock has served as the SNP’s Shadow Environment spokesperson.
Born in 1961, Brock studied English at Curtin University and acting at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. In 1990, while working as an actress she appeared in an episode of the soap opera Home and Away. Brock is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the BBC.
Brock moved to Scotland in 1996.
Deidre Brock then worked for Rob Gibson MSP before being elected as a SNP Councillor on the City of Edinburgh Council between 2007 and 2015. Brock subsequently became the Deputy Lord Provost on Edinburgh City Council.
Brock is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Fisheries, and on Marine Energy.
