Starmer calls on Johnson to resign after PM apologises for No 10 party

Sir Keir Starmer has called on Boris Johnson to resign after the prime minister admitted to hosting a lockdown-breaking party in Downing Street.

The prime minister started Prime Minister’s Questions by apologising for organising and attending party in Downing Street on the 20th May 2020, only hours before then culture secretary Oliver Dowden told the public not to break lockdown rules on gathering in large groups.

Johnson told the House of Commons: “There were things we simply did not get right and they must take responsibility.”

Labour’s leader Sir Keir Starmer called the prime minister’s apology “offensive to the British public”, and questioned whether the prime minister is “going to do the decent thing and resign?”
