Cherie Blair faces row over forgotten passport

A police motorcyclist rushed Cherie Blair’s passport to Heathrow Airport last Sunday, after she forgot to take it with her, it has been claimed.

The Daily Mail reports that the Diplomatic Protection Group officer used blue lights and sirens to rush from 10 Downing Street to the airport, where Mrs Blair was waiting to board a plane to Istanbul.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “On May 22, the DPG were requested to transport a document from central London to Heathrow Airport.

“This was an operational decision and we are not prepared to discuss further.”

Downing Street declined to comment, but confirmed that the Prime Minister’s wife was on a private trip in her capacity as a barrister.

A spokeswoman said: “We have nothing to say on the matter.

“She was travelling in her capacity as a barrister.”

A Conservative member of the Metropolitan Police Authority has criticised the alleged involvement of police in the situation.

Richard Barnes told the Daily Mail: “The fact that the Prime Minister’s wife has mislaid her passport does not constitute an emergency.

“It appears the Metropolitan Police is now providing a private service to the Labour Party.”
