John Lamont is‌ ‌the Conservative‌ ‌MP‌ ‌for the Borders constituency of Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk ‌,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in‌ 2017‌. He ‌‌was‌ re-‌elected‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌2019‌ ‌General‌ ‌Election‌ ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of 5,148‌ over‌ ‌the‌ ‌Scottish National Party.‌
The constituency of Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk is a vast rural seat in the South of Scotland, that includes the towns of Galashiels and Hawick. ‌ Formerly represented by the Liberal Democrats, including for many years by the party’s former leader David Steel, it was won by the SNP in 2015, before being captured by the Conservatives in 2017.

Born‌ ‌in 1976, John Lamont studied ‌law at‌ the University of Glasgow, and later worked‌ as a solicitor at Freshfields in London and then at Brodies in Edinburgh.
He was a Member of the Scottish Parliament between 2007 and 2017 for Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire, and served as the Conservative Chief Whip at Holyrood.
He supported Jeremy Hunt in the 2019 Conservative leadership election.
Lamont is a marathon runner. He was the fastest MP to complete the 2018 London marathon, and is said to be the first Member of Parliament to have completed an iron man triathlon. He is the son of a Berwickshire farmer, and lives in Coldstream.
He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Internet, Communications and Technology, and Scotch Whisky.
