Khan, Imran Ahmad

Imran Ahmad Khan was elected as the Conservative‌ MP‌ ‌for‌ Wakefield in 2019,‌ gaining the seat from the Labour Party with a majority of 3,358. He resigned from Westmisnter in April 2022.

In June 2021, Imran Khan had the Conservative whip in the House of Commons removed.  This was following revelations that he was set to stand trial having been charged with sexually assaulting a 15 year old boy in 2008.  Mr Khan denied the charges, but was found guilty in April 2022.

Khan’s constituency of Wakefield had previously been a Labour seat in every election since the Second World War.  Containing the city of Wakefield, it also covers the smaller town of Horbury and the surrounding rural area.   It’s electorate voted by 62.8% to leave the EU in the 2016 Brexit referendum.

Born‌ ‌in 1973 in Wakefield, Imran Ahmad-Khan studied at Kings College London and the Pushkin Institute in Moscow.  He is a business founder who has worked in the strategy and communications sectors, including undertaking roles for a number of a governments and the United Nations.  He was formerly a Senior consultant for M&C Saatchi.

Selected to replace the previous Conservative relatively shortly before the 2019 General Election, he responded to claims that he was a parachute candidate, by literally sky diving into the constituency to launch his campaign.

He is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Afghanistan, and Foreign Affairs. He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, Kashmir, Pakistan, Key Cities, Knife Crime and Waterways.

Imran Ahmad-Khan was a supporter of Brexit.  He is a supporter of the ‘Yorkshire Devolution Campaign’ for more powers to be devolved to Yorkshire.
