Claire Hanna is the Social Democratic and Labour MP for Belfast South, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019. Claire gained the seat in the 2019 General Election with a majority of 15,401 over the Democratic Unionist Party.
Sinn Fein stood down from this constituency in 2019, helping the SDLP to capture the seat.
Born in 1980, Claire Hanna gained an honours degree from the Open University as well as a Masters’ degree in law from Queen’s University Belfast. Queens is also found within this constituency.
Claire Hanna then worked in international development as an aid worker in roles which took her to a variety of places across the world.
She was previously elected as a Councillor on Belfast city council between 2011 and 2014, and represented Belfast South in the Northern Ireland Assembly between 2015 and 2019.
She is married with three children, and enjoys participating in park runs.
