James Grundy is‌ ‌the‌ Conservative MP‌ ‌for‌ Leigh‌,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in 2019‌, gaining the seat off Labour with a majority of 1,965.
The Leigh constituency‌ ‌is‌ ‌found‌ ‌within‌ ‌the‌ ‌Greater Manchester conurbation, ‌and‌ ‌covers the separate towns of Leigh, Golborne and Tyldesley. Having elected a Labour MP for every election in the last 100 years (dating back to 1922), Leigh was one of the Conservative Party’s most unexpected gains in the 2019 General Election. James Grundy overturned a Labour majority of more than 9,500, in a seat where 63.3% of the electorate had backed Brexit in the 2016 referendum.
Born in 1978, James Grundy was educated at the University of Central Lancashire.
He was elected to Wigan Borough Council in 2008. He has been a long standing campaigner for Leigh to have its own council.
James Grundy was a supporter of Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum.
