Kate Knifeton is‌ ‌the‌ Conservative MP‌ ‌for‌ Burton‌,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in‌ 2019 with a majority of 14,496.
Ms Knifeton was elected as Kate Griffiths in 2019, but reverted to using her maiden name in 2022.
In a bizarre twist to the notion of a family seat, Kate Knifeton succeeded her ex husband as the Conservative candidate for Burton in 2019.  Andrew Griffiths had previously been the MP for Burton between 2010 and 2019, but lost the party whip after it was reported that he had sent a large number of explicit text messages back in 2018.  Kate Knifeton in effect won the local party’s nomination from her ex husband.
The Burton constituency ‌is‌ ‌found‌ ‌in‌ north of ‌the‌ ‌county‌ ‌of‌ ‌Staffordshire and‌ ‌covers Burton, Uttoxeter and the surrounding rural area‌. Regarded as home to the British brewing industry, it also houses the JCB factory.  The constituency normally returns a Conservative MP, but it has backed Labour whenever the Labour Party has itself won a significant landslide majority such as 1945, 1997, 2001 and 2005.
Born‌ ‌in 1971, Kate Knifeton was‌ ‌educated‌ ‌at Derby High school, before studying classics at Exeter University‌. She worked‌ as the corporate hospitality coordinator ‌for Burton football club, and in sales for an export business in Derby, before being elected to Parliament.
Knifeton is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Domestic Violence and Abuse, and the Midlands Engine. She has a young daughter.
