Leo Docherty is‌ ‌the‌ Conservative ‌MP‌ ‌for‌ Aldershot,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in‌ 2017. He was re-elected‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌2019‌ ‌General‌ ‌Election‌ ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ 16,698 ‌over‌ ‌the‌ Liberal Democrats.‌ ‌
The Aldershot constituency ‌is‌ ‌found‌ ‌within‌ ‌the‌ ‌county‌ ‌of Hampshire‌ ‌and‌ ‌covers‌ Aldershot, Farnborough, and the surrounding countryside in the north eastern corner of Hampshire. The constituency contains Aldershot barracks and is also known as the home of the British army. It is also now said to be home to one of the largest Buddhist communities in the UK. Aldershot has been held by the Conservative Party since the end of the First World War.

Between September 2021 and September 2022, Docherty served as Parliamentary Secretary for Defence. He was an Assistant Government Whip between 2019 and 2021.
‌Born‌ in 1976, Leo‌ Docherty was‌ ‌educated‌ ‌at‌ the University of London, before attending the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst. Leo then served in the British army in the 1st Battalion Scots Guards, itself based in the Aldershot constituency.
As an army officer, Docherty served as an officer In Iraq and Afghanistan. After leaving the army he wrote a book (the ‘Desert of Death’) and had a brief career in publishing, before‌ ‌being‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ Parliament.‌ ‌
On leaving the Army, Docherty travelled from Turkey to Afghanistan on horseback, bicycle and on foot, in a journey which lasted 6 months.  He later served as the Director of the Conservative Middle East Council.
Docherty was a member of Oxfordshire District Council between 2011 and 2015. He is married with two children.
A supporter of Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum, he backed Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.
