Tracey, Craig

Craig Tracey was elected as the Conservative MP for North Warwickshire in 2015 with a majority of 2,973.  He was reelected in 2019 with a majority of 17,956.

The constituency of North Warwickshire covers the very northern tip of the county approximately ten miles to the east of Birmingham. It contains the market towns of Bedworth and Atherstone.  Parts of this constituency contain the lowest average incomes in Warwickshire, and alongside a commuter population travelling to Coventry, Birmingham and Leicester, this seat also has some pockets of industry.   Although the Conservatives won comfortably here in 2019 this is a long standing marginal seat, which was held by Labour continuously between 1992 and 2010.

Born into a mining family in Durham in 1974, Tracey attended the city’s Framwellgate Moor Comprehensive School.  He left school at 17, and worked in worked in insurance for twenty years before becoming an MP.  He up his own insurance broking business, Dunelm Insurance Brokers.  According to the 2021 Register of Members Interests, he remains a shareholder in the business.

Tracey supported Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum.  He was said to have become interested in politics because of the impact that EU regulation was previously having on his business.

He is opposed to HS2.

Tracey is married.  He is said to have spent his honeymoon at the 2014 Conservative Party conference in Birmingham.

Craig Tracey is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Golf; Breast Cancer; Women and Enterprise; and Insurance and Financial Services. He is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Inclusive Entrepreneurship; Textiles and Fashion; Black, Asian, and Minority Business Owners; and the Commonwealth Games.
