Carter, Andy

Andy Carter is the Conservative Party MP for Warrington South, having first been elected to Parliament in the 2019 General Election.  He gained the seat from the Labour Party with a majority of 2,010.

The Warrington South constituency is found within the county of Cheshire and covers much of the town of Warrington itself, Great Sankey and the surrounding area.    This is a long standing marginal seat which was held by the Conservative Party during the 1980s, and again between 2010 and 2017, before being regained by Labour in 2017, and then returning to the Conservatives in 2019.

Born in 1974, Andy Carter was educated at the University of Leicester and the University of Pennsylvania in the United States.

Carter was formerly a radio journalist with Real Radio, who later progressed to serve as Group Managing Director for the Manchester-based Guardian Media Group Radio between 2010 and 2014.  He is the current Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Commercial Radio, and the All Party Media Group.

After leaving Guardian Media, Carter then ran his own brand management consultancy. The register of Members Interests shows him to be the Director of Shoebridge, an import agency.

He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Brazil, Channel 4, and Light Rail, Rugby League, and School Exclusions and Alternative Provision.

He is married with one son, and has previously served as a magistrate, and a director of TBAP Multi
Academy Trust.

Carter sits on the Commons privileges committee.
