Duncan Baker is‌ ‌the‌ Conservative ‌MP‌ ‌for‌ North Norfolk‌,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in 2019‌. He was elected with ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ 14,395 ‌over‌ ‌the Liberal Democrats‌.‌ ‌
The North Norfolk constituency‌ is found‌ ‌within‌ ‌the‌ ‌county‌ ‌of‌ ‌Norfolk. It is a long comparatively thin coastal seat that runs around the north of the County. It covers the towns of Cromer, Wells-next-the-sea, and Sheringham. Containing a high number of retired voters, the seat was previously held by the Liberal Democrat, Norman Lamb between 2001 and 2019. It was gained by the Conservatives in 2019.
Duncan Baker was previously a PPS at the Department for Levelling Up but resigned in July 2022 in protest at Boris Johnson continuing to remain as prime minister.
Born‌ ‌in 1979‌, Duncan‌ Baker studied Business at Nottingham Trent University. After graduating, he qualified as a chartered accountant for Baker Tilly, and then he worked as a finance director for a North Norfolk builder’s merchants, ‌before‌ ‌being‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament.‌ ‌
He was previously Leader of the Conservative Group on the local North Norfolk District Council.
He is married with two children. He is a former member of the UK Independence Party, and as such was also a strong supporter of Brexit.
Duncan Baker’s late step-father, Michael Baker, stood for this constituency for UKIP in the 2015 General Election and polled a higher 17% of the vote.
He is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Net Zero emissions, and on Rural Business.
