Gareth Bacon is the Conservative MP for Orpington, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019 Â with a majority of 22,378 over the Labour Party.
The constituency of Orpington is found within outer South East London on the border with Kent and covers Orpington, Farnborough, St Mary’s Cray, alongside Biggin Hill known for its airport.  This area of England has been solidly Conservative since 1970, albeit it was represented by the Liberals between 1962 and 1970 following a by-election. Prior to 2019 it was represented by Jo Johnson, the brother of Boris Johnson.
Born in 1972 in Hong Kong, Gareth Bacon grew up in nearby Sidcup and was educated at the University of Kent. His Masters Degree’s dissertation focussed on an examination of the democratic deficit in the European Union.
Bacon worked in financial recruitment as Head of the public sector division of Martin Ward Anderson before being elected to Parliament.
He previously served on the Greater London Assembly where he was Leader of the Conservative Group.  Towards the end of Boris Johnson’s period as London Mayor, Bacon served as Chairman of the London Fire & Emergency Planning Authority.
He has also been a member of Bexley Council in South East London.
Bacon is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Legal Aid and International Trade.
He enjoys squash, and despite living in south east London, he stated during his time on the London Assembly that he was a season ticket holder at Manchester United.
Bacon is married with a daughter.
