Government urged to adopt Labour plans on boosting creative education in schools

During culture, media and sport department questions today, Labour spokesperson Lucy Powell asked the secretary of state about plans to increase music, drama and the arts in schools.

Ms Powell said: “Will the secretary of state support Labour’s new policy to increase music, drama and the arts in schools and transform our curriculum to meet the needs of the future economy which desperately needs creative skills?”.

Lucy Frazer responded: “I was reminded the other day that as secretary of state for education and employment, David Blunkett, a Labour secretary of state, slimmed down the statutory curriculum for creative education”.
