‘Get off Russian gas’ review needs backing from Sunak and Johnson , Greenpeace says

The government has launched an urgent review into Britain’s exposure to Russian gas imports following the invasion of Ukraine, according to reports in the Financial Times.

Rosie Rogers, head of Greenpeace UK’s oil and gas team, said: “This government has realised this is precisely the moment to get off gas – to stand up to Putin, tackle soaring bills and address the climate crisis.

“The solution is clear. We need an emergency plan to free our country from gas dependence, backed not just by the Business Secretary but also by Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

“The government must seize this moment to accelerate renewables and unveil a bonanza of properly-funded home upgrades – from heat pumps to insulation. The Spring Statement is just around the corner, we have 20 days to show we’re serious about getting off gas.”
