Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda network is suspected of carrying out Saturday’s suicide attack in Saudi Arabia which killed at least eleven people.

The London-based weekly, Al-Majalla, said it had received an email from al Qaeda operative Abu Mohammed al-Ablaj (aka Abu Bakr) claiming responsibility for the attack.

A statement was handed to press on Tuesday after the email was sent late Monday, the magazine said.

More than 120 people were wounded when a car packed with explosives detonated in a Riyadh compound, mainly occupied by Arab foreigners.

The US has been forced to temporarily close its diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia after intelligence reports warned of imminent attacks.

Separately, the commander of the US forces in Iraq yesterday said 20 assumed al-Qaeda operatives were being held for questioning.
