A man who caused massive disruption to traffic in central London after spending six days up a crane dressed as Spiderman has ended his protest.

David Chick, 36, climbed down the 100 ft crane at Tower Bridge at 16:00 GMT today and was arrested at the bottom and taken away in a police van, to shouts from supporters.

The protester was trying to highlight the plight of fathers denied access to their children.

Richard Barnes, deputy chairman of the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA), said policing the protest cost around £10,000 a day.

“I would like him to receive a bill afterwards – if we can charge David Blaine, we can charge him as well,” he added.

Matt O’Connor, spokesman for pressure group Fathers 4 Justice, said: “I think he’s raised the issue. Everyone’s talking about it in London. MPs were talking about it in Parliament.”
