Biography:
Sam Gyimah was re-elected as Conservative MP for East Surrey on May 7th 2015 with 32211 votes, taking 57.4% of the vote.
Sam was born in Beaconsfield on 10th August 1976 and was educated at Achimota Secondary School, Ghana, and Freman College, Hertfordshire. Sam earned a place at Somerville College, Oxford to read Philosophy, Politics and Economics; whilst there, he was elected President of the Oxford Union.
Sam started his career at Goldman Sachs. He left in 2003, after which he was involved in developing a couple of small businesses in the training, employment and internet sectors; in 2005, he was voted CBI Entrepreneur of the Future.
Sam was Chairman of the Bow Group, Think Tank, and edited From the Ashes…. – an anthology of essays on the Future of the Conservative Party – and has been a local Association Officer.
He has served as School Governor of an Inner London School, on the Board of a Housing Association and on the Development Board of Somerville College. He has been a volunteer and fundraiser for Crisis and Down Syndrome Association.
Between 2012 and 2015 he was appointed for the following roles: Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Prime Minister, Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury, Parliamentary Secretary (Minister for the Constitution) at the Cabinet Office, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Childcare and Education at the Department of Education.
