‘UK very well viewed in Nato alliance’

The UK is still “very well viewed” in Nato, according to a former high-ranking alliance official.

Sir James Everard, the former NATO deputy supreme allied commander Europe (DSACEUR), stated that the UK has maintained a strong reputation in the alliance despite a high turnover of defence secretaries in recent years.

Sir James stated: “In my three years as DSACEUR I had four defence secretaries. And so you inevitably don’t have that level of continuity and depth of friendship that people would like to see.

“But then again, our current defence secretary’s what been there since 2019. So, he’s got that.”
