MPs react to report showing police strip searching children as young as eight

The safeguarding minister Sarah Dines was today called to the commons to answer an urgent question from the Liberal Democrat MP Munira Wilson on the report by the children’s commissioner which shows police are strip searching children as young as eight.

Ms Wilson said: “Last year, I questioned ministers about the child abuse scandal where a 15 year old girl was strip searched at school whilst on her period without an appropriate adult present. … I think this report makes crystal clear that we do have a systemic problem”.
