MPs mark Holocaust Memorial Day with debate

Holocaust Memorial Day is being observed on Friday 27th of January, and to mark the occasion, MPs held a debate in the House of Commons today.

Former chancellor Sajid Javid opened the debate. He said: “Genocide is a dark stain on the conscience of humanity and the hatred that drives it. A disease of the heart. After the Holocaust, we vowed never again. But the killing fields of Cambodia, the butchery of Rwanda, the deathly silence of separatism, the suffering of Darfur shows the disease of hatred lives on”.

He also condemned Andrew Bridgen, who had the Conservative whip suspended earlier this month for comments comparing the vaccine rollout to the Holocaust.
