MPs examine equality in UK asylum process

Today the women and equalities committee held an oral evidence session on equality and the UK asylum process.

Andy Hewett, head of advocacy at Refugee Council said he disagreed that increasing global access to UK resettlement schemes could balance out the tougher asylum system laid down in the Nationality and Borders Act, as previous witnesses had claimed.

He said the Refugee Council believe “that the global refugee protection system needs to reflect and address the needs of people displaced by conflict.”
