Minister grilled over Rwanda asylum policy

Tom Pursglove has defended the timing of the government’s controversial Rwanda asylum policy in a head home affairs committee session.

The minister for justice and tackling illegal migration was challenged by committee chair Dame Diana Johnson as to why the detail of the policy came three weeks after the government’s announcement about sending asylum seekers to Rwanda.

Pursglove argued: “It’s right that we tread carefully in delivering the detail of the policy in a way that is sensitive to that and that doesn’t support that sort of criminality that is so egregious and unacceptable.”
