Government questioned over the appointment of Johnson confidant as BBC chair

In DCMS questions today, shadow secretary of state Lucy Powell questioned the government over the controversy surrounding the appointment of Richard Sharp as chairman of the BBC.

Ms Powell asked: “What does the secretary of state think it was about the close confidant of the former prime minister who was helping with his personal finances that first attracted him to appoint Mr. Sharpe?”.

Secretary of state Michelle Donelan replied: “Mr Sharp was appointed as chairman of the BBC following a rigorous appointment process made in line with the Public Appointments Governance Code”.
