The Conservatives lead in three new opinion polls, but projections continue to leave them short of an overall majority.

The party gains one in a daily YouGov/Sun tracker to reach 34% but the Liberal Democrats pick up three points to go to 31% and Labour drop two to 27%.

The Conservatives’ best poll is by ComRes for the Independent and ITV, where the Tories pick up three point to gain 36% support, five points ahead of Labour, steady at 29%, with the Lib Dems losing three points at 26%.

The race is tighter in a Harris poll for Metro. The Tories still lead but at 32% – gaining a point – they are only two up on the Lib Dems, who hold at 30%. Labour lose one to touch at 25%.

It has yet to be seen how Gordon Brown’s difficulties in Rochdale yesterday will affect the opinion polls.
