BBC will keep Sugar onboard

The BBC has confirmed it will keep Sir Alan Sugar on board, despite his new government role.

The Tories reacted angrily to the news, with Jeremy Hunt, shadow media secretary, calling the decision “outrageous”.

Sir Alan was made enterprise tsar during the recent government reshuffle.

“This is an outrageous piece of media management by the BBC. Slipping this letter out when the media is focused on MPs’ expenses is simply staggering,” Mr Hunt said.

The move was confirmed in a letter to Mr Hunt from Mark Thompson, director general of the BBC.
