Forty die in Kabul blast

Around 40 people have been killed in a one of Afghan capital Kabul’s most deadly attacks.

The blast occurred when a suicide bomber drove a car packed with explosives into the main entrance of the Indian embassy, opposite the Afghan interior ministry.

Dozens of people were waiting to collect exit visas nearby and at least 140 people have reportedly been wounded in the attack.

It follows warnings by the Taliban that it plans to step up its campaign of violence against the western-backed Afghan government.

Coalition forces have been fighting to defeat the Taliban since November 2001, when the extremist Islamist group were ejected from power.
