Universal Basic Income – A utopian dream or an expensive disaster?

 

As we emerge from the global pandemic, with reportedly 1.9 million people using foodbanks, many have called for a change in the UK’s welfare system.

One recommendation is Universal Basic Income, a system where everyone is given a certain amount of money to live on, regardless of their earnings or financial situation.

Several councils in England and Scotland have requested to start trials of the scheme, but is it worth the enormous financial costs?
