Streeting accuses Sajid Javid of ‘pulling a fast one on NHS spending’

Shadow health secretary Wes Streeting accused health secretary Sajid Javid of “pulling a fast one” on either the chancellor or NHS patients as the pair clashed during health questions in the House of Commons.

Streeting made the claim based on Javid increasing expenditure on coronavirus costs despite a Times report that he “came away with nothing” when asking the chancellor for extra funding. The Labour MP said that “either he had the money or cuts are going to fall with existing budgets”.

The health secretary told Streeting that he “shouldn’t believe everything that reads in the press” and that the “number one priority is to keep the virus at bay”.
