Speaker blasts Zahawi for taking too long

During topical questions, education secretary Nadhim Zahawi and Conservative MP Jonathan Gullis were scolded by Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle in quick succession.

Hoyle made his disappointment with Zahawi in particular clear, telling him “it’s not like you”.

The Speaker accused both MPs of “taking advantage of the chair” and speaking for too long during topical questions that are traditionally conducted with short questions and answers.
