Reeves and Sunak clash on windfall tax

Following chancellor Rishi Sunak’s statement to the House of Commons in which he announced a change in stance by adopting the windfall tax on gas and oil companies, Labour’s Rachel Reeves suggested that this was a move to change “headlines” following the Sue Gray report.

Reeves also criticised the long period that elapsed between calls for windfall tax and the policy being implemented “nearly five months” later.

Sunak told Reeves that “being able to change course is not a weakness” but a “strength”.
