‘Pornography normalises sexual violence’

Pornography is a key driver in the “normalisation of sexual violence”, a panel of experts has today warned.

In the women and equalities committee’s evidence session on pornography and its impact on violence against women and girls, committee chair Caroline Nokes asked a panel of experts why “it feels like everybody’s looking” porn.

Professor Clare McGlynn argued that “the prevalence of harmful violent pornography online… normalises sexual violence”.

Vanessa Morse, CEO of CEASE (Centre to End All Sexual Exploitation), added that pornography sites have been “designed to get people to come back more and more often and to stay on the sites for longer.”
