Nandy on reports that the treasury has banned capital spending by DLUHC

In an urgent question today, Lisa Nandy probed the government on reports that the treasury is enforcing a ban on capital spending by Michael Gove’s Whitehall department.

Ms Nandy said: “We deserve to know whether the chancellor of the exchequer believes the secretary of state, who is finally belatedly spending money on improving housing standards, is is a secretary of state that has gone rogue because that would be a very serious thing indeed”.

Lee Rowley, a minister from the department for levelling up, said: “We will always work closely with Treasury. We value their value for money focus when they value our mission and they share our mission to level up the country as a whole, and we will continue to do that”.
