In a speech that she said she wanted to be “about hope”, Labour’s Debbie Abrahams began the debate on dementia by discussing the importance of “investment in research and development”, and the “economic benefits” of doing so.
Abrahams told the House that despite dementia being “the UK’s biggest killer”, the most exciting area of the moment is diagnosis, with potential blood biomarker tests able to ensure “accurate and early diagnosis many decades before”.
The MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth highlighted the importance of the government investment “acting as a catalyst to unblock private investment as we saw with the covid vaccine development”.
