‘Invest, invest, invest’: Rachel Reeves vows first Labour budget will ‘put more pounds in people’s pockets’
Rachel Reeves claimed the budget, the first to be delivered by a Labour chancellor in over fourteen years, will put “more pounds in people’s pockets”.
Addressing MPs on Wednesday afternoon, the chancellor insisted her belief in Britain “burns brighter than ever” and that the “prize on offer is immense”.
Reeves said: “As the prime minister said on Monday, change must be felt. More pounds in people’s pockets. An NHS that is there when you need it. An economy that is growing, creating wealth and opportunity for all.”
She added: “That is the only way to improve living standards. And the only way to drive economic growth is to invest, invest, invest.”
