Government told to seize Russian state assets to fund Ukraine reconstruction

The House of Commons today debated a motion calling for the seizure of Russian assets to fund Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction.

Speaking in the debate, Labour MP Liam Byrne said: “So there we have it, £18 billion frozen licences issued like confetti in a secret regime, which ministers say is down to civil servants and civil servants say is actually advice to ministers. And despite this flagrant abuse that we know well and we know the scale of it, because the Financial Times has told us that $250 million had been laundered by the Wagner group”.
