Brexit has not seen ‘slackening’ of rules on sewage discharges, says Gove

The commons levelling up, housing and communities committee today heard evidence from secretary of state Michael Gove. The committee heard from Mr Gove in his capacity a minister for inter-governmental relations.

Questioned on the EU retained law bill and its affects on devolution and standards, Mr Gove said: “Is it the case that since we left the European Union, that there has been a slackening in the rules in order to make the situation worse? No, quite the opposite. It’s a myth to imagine that our departure from the European Union has led deliberately to a lowering of standards here”.
