Braverman clashes with Labour and Conservative MPs on migration

On the day the home secretary signed a £63m deal with France which will see British officers stationed in French control rooms for the first time, Suella Braverman was forced to defend the government’s actions in parliament today.

Stephen Kinnock, the shadow minister for immigration, said: “The Nationality and Borders Act establishes a new category of asylum seeker who the government claims are not permitted to claim asylum in Britain, and should therefore be removed”.

Ms Braverman replied: “Labour are very good at complaining – [but] they have absolutely no solution at all.”

Conservative MP Dr Luke Evans also criticised the “completely unacceptable” situation of asylum seekers being housed in a hotel in his constituency which was previously deemed unsuitable due to health and safety concerns. He added that local authorities were not informed.
