GMB Calls for Gas ‘Fair Share’ for UK Use
GMB has urged government to ringfence gas supplies to help public during cost-of-living crisis.
It is common for gas-producing nations to reservation a portion of their output to reduce prices for consumers and industry.
Responding to reports that Ministers have ruled out a domestic reservation policy, GMB National Secretary Andy Prendergast said:
“This confirms our worst fears – that government simply didn’t listen to our clear advice that could improve UK energy security.
“Domestic reservation policies have a proven track record of bringing down costs in jurisdictions like Western Australia.
“In an ongoing cost of living crisis, ring-fencing supplies from Rosebank could help everyone. It would be a win on cost grounds as well as ensuring we have energy security in a less stable world.
“Ministers’ failure on this is reckless in the extreme.”
