Pat McFadden: Era of ministers waging culture wars on the civil service is over
Speaking in Cabinet Office questions on Thursday, chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Pat McFadden declared that the days of “government ministers waging culture wars against civil servants are over”.
The comments came as McFadden addressed a question relating to the government’s approach to civil service pay and structure, posed by Labour MP Mary Glindon.
Glindon said: “In 14 years, the Tory government did nothing to tackle a ludicrous situation whereby there are over 200 pay bargaining units for the civil servants across all government departments and agencies, a highly time consuming and inefficient process.
“It generates unfair pay disparities between people doing near identical jobs in different government offices”, she added.
McFadden replied that the government will have “more to say about civil service pay before the summer recess.”
