A 21-year-old woman has been remanded in custody after facing charges of trying to kill Labour MP Stephen Timms.

Roshonara Choudhary, who lives in Mr Timms’ East Ham constituency appeared at Stratford magistrates’ court today, accused of attempted murder.

She is accused of stabbing the 54-year-old MP twice in the stomach on Friday afternoon at a constituency surgery at Beckton Globe library.

Mr Timms is in the Royal London Hospital and is said to be recovering well after an operation.

Newham Council said it is reviewing security arrangements following the alleged attack.
